The Different Types of Yoga Classes
If you decide to go to a yoga studio and take a class, then it’s important to note that not all yoga classes are created equal. Ashtanga: The Ashtanga style of yoga is extremely rigorous. Typically the instructor will lead you through a sequence of poses at a faster pace, leading to a more intense practice than some of the other styles.
Anusara: This style of yoga is fairly new, and it is designed to use the physical aspect of yoga to help students open their hearts and unleash their inner goodness.
Bikram: Bikram yoga always follows the same sequence of 26 poses, but it is designed to make you sweat like you’ve never sweat before. This style is typically practiced in a heated room.
Vinyasa: Vinyasa or “flow yoga” is known for the fluid way students learn to synchronize each pose with their breath. Students will usually flow through the different poses a little faster than they would in Hatha yoga, and often the instructor will play music in the background.
Restorative: Also described as “Yin” yoga, this style is designed to restore your muscles and relieve stress. During this class, students will use a variety of props to help stretch their body without having to exert as much effort as they would in the other classes.
